Taranaki Poultry, Pigeon and Canary Society.

» THE ANNUAL EXHIBITION. TnE annual show was opened in the Drill Hall on Friday. There was a s^lendm exhibition of birds in ; 11 the classes, the total entries being 64 in excess of last year. The outside competition was excellent, birds being brought from Auckland and centres along this coast. The judges — Messrs J. Walker (Auckland), J. Casey (Wellington), S. Oliver (Sentry Hill), and A. C. Johnson (Lepperton* — expressed the opinion that in quality and competition the show was far ahead of any previous fixture, and in many cases they bad great difficulty in arriving at their decisions. In the Poultry classes there was a good exhibition. In the game classes there was a fine show of birds, Mr J. T. Sinclair carrying »ff the Champion prize of the Show with an Indian cockerel. In Dorkings, Brahmas, Langshans, Orpingtons, Plymouth Rocks, Houdans, Wyandottes, Minorcas, Leghorns, Hamburg.?, and Bantams there was a fine display of birds, anil good competition. In Polish, Andalusians, Redcaps, Ancona, and the Best Trios there was a small, but select exhibition. Ducks were well represented in the Rouen, Pekin, and Indian Runner breeds. Guinea fowls were shown. In eggs there was a moderate showing, felling classes were well represented and the same remark apnijesto ttb'e poultry. There was no compititi n'.n dead poultry, Messrs McE wen Bros being the only exhibitors. The pigeon classes were well represented, especially in Dragoons, Homers, and Tumblers. The collection of canaries ia the best ever exhibited at the Society's shows. Other pet birds are also well represented. The Committee and energetic Secretary, Mr A. Hardy, have carried out their work well in connection with the Show. The Show will be opened to-night when the Art Union will be drawn. Tb,e following is the prize list : — The Garrison Band will march out this evening, and play several selections outside the Drill Hall. The auction sale will be beldnt 8 o'clock, and the art union will be drawn at .9 o'clock. POULTRY. GAME. (Judge: Mr J. Walker, Auckland). Black: Red cock, W.
