Tho city is to be illuminated. On the following day the Duke will be asked to lay the foundation stone of the Queen's Statue, attend the children's demonstration and floral display and the inaritino display in the evening on the occasion of the Ophir's departure. There is a probability of the' business people in each block combining to decorate the streets within the block.

Wellington, April 1. — A joint committee of the City Council and citizens, which has in hand preparations for the reception of th<> Duko and Duchess of York, met this morning. Tho Mayor presided. It was resolved that an address of welcome should be presented to the Royal visitors in the triangle facing the General Post Office. The committee decided that the city should erect only oue arch, and that should be pi iced across Jervois Quay from Queon's Chambers to the railway line from the main gates to the Queen's Wharf. Other parls of the province and tho citizens of Wellington are expected lo erect arches also. Tho joint committeo is to meet the Reception Committeo of the Harbour Board on Wednesday afternoon next to arrange a joint plan of reception and decoration. The Mayors and Chairmen of local bodies outside tho city are also to bo invited to take part in Wednesday's conference.
