| FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT. | Another old and respected settler— J. | H. Stevens, of the Durham Read — died last week from cancer. His remains were interred in the Inglewood Cemetery on Sunday. The Rev Father, Treaoy performed the burial service. The funeral was a large one. A squad of nine men of the Inglewood Rifles met at the range on Thursday afternoon, and went through their first target practice. The distance was 200 yards, the positions standing, kneeling, and lying. Seven rounds were fired in each position. The scores were as follows: — Private Luke, 68 ; Private G. Cook, 67; Corporal Taylor, 67; Private T. Lawson, 59; Private J. Wheeler, 55; Private C. Pilchard. 54; Private J, Lawson, 52; Sergeant G. Drake, 52; Private Stock, 51; Private T. Clarke, 60; Private Hammond. 47 ; Private Hickton, 45 ; Corporal H.Evans, 44; Private Bateman, 42 : Sergeant Frewin, 41 ; Private C. Hodgson, 35; Private C. Duke, 28; Private H. Giles, 17.
