, COMMAND OF NEW SOUTH WALEIS | FIFTH CONTINGENT. I Rpceive-i January 26. 9.20 a.m 1 Sydney, January 26.-Colonel Lassetter | has been appointed to the command of the Fifth Contingent. THE SIXTH CONTINGENT. [I'ER PREBO \BSOCIATION, ( \Vellinotox, January 25. — The following troopers who returned by the Orient have been appointed acting- lieu tenants in the Sixth Contingent, subject i to the appointments being confirmed by the Imperial authorities at tbe front: — Corporals Morrison, Mao Donald, and Mitchell ; Privates Wood, Wallis, and Blinkholm. Captain Smith, of the Raglan Mounted Rifles, who came into camp expecting to get a commission in the Sixth, is not going to South Africa. The provisional appointments of noncommissioned officers have, with few exceptions, been confirmed. It has been definitely decided that the Cornwall, with the Sixtb Contingent aboard, will leave for Auckland at 6 o'clock to-morrow evening. A beginning was made with the shipment of horses this afternoon.
