War God finished in front of The Chief at the end of a mile and a quarter in 2min 18sec; Ballistite and Pearl Skipper defeated Labourer over_ a nnle and a half in 2min 20Jsec. Boromeo and Phillib eg finished the same distance in a quarter second less. Seahorse went well over half a milo. Strathjoy ran a mile and a half in 2niin 48f sec. Holster ran 9 furlongs in 2min 7sec., MerriweeJ who is a vastly improved horse, ran 4 furlongs with The Dude in • 52sec. Fadladden finished the last mile of 10 furlongs in Imin 49scc. Betting —Caulfield Cup: Kinglike was well supported, and finished up an equal favourite with Sagacity at 100 to 12. La Carabine was backed to win L7oooat 100 to 6. Cornquist hardened at 12 to 1. Ingleston is 14 to 1. Derby quotations are unaltered. Merriwce iR favourite for the Melbourne Cup at 100 to 8, which is freely taken; Hautboy, 16 to 1; Lancaster, 20 to 1, offered.
