FitrDAY, October 12.—The Hon. the Speaker took the chair at 2.30 p.m. The New Zealand Institute Surveyors and Board of Examiners Bill was read a first time. On amendments made by the House of Representatives in the Workers Compensation for Accidents Bili, tho Hon. Mr Bonar thought the provisions of the new Clause 20 an absolutely monstrous clause, It reads : " Every policy of accident insurance issued after the coming into operation of this Act shall- contain only such provisions as may be approved by the Governor.in-Council." I Tho Minister explained that tho clause simply meant that all conditions of accident insurance policies were to be approved by the Government; not that all individual policies should be submitted to the Government. The amendments wcro agreed to by 17 votes to 13. The Public Works Act Amendment Bill and Representation Bill were road a first time. The Reporting Debates and Printing Committee had no recommendation to make with regard to publication of a J daily Hansard, which would entail an exj tra expense of £38 per day. The Animals Protection Acts Amendment Bill was committed. Clause 2 was amended, to provide for the season for native or imported game throughout the colony, commencing on May Ist and closing on July 31st, with a proviso for restriction or earlier closing on the application of the Acclimatisation Society. Clauss 4 was amended, by tho addition of the words "to provide that thp first triennial close year for nativo pigeon, pukeko, and kaka shall commence three years from May Ist, 1901. The BiU was then reported, read a third time, and passed. The Council adjourned at 4.20 p.m. to 8 o'clock, when The amendments made by the House in the Old Age Pension Bill were agreed to.

The Council adjourned at 8.10 p.m. until 11 o'clock on Saturday morning. Wkm-inoton, October 13. — The Council this morning read the Maori Bills a second time, nnd referred them to the Native Affairs Committee, after a piotesl against the delay in bringing 'them down from tho Hon Mr Shri'iiski. Tho Representation Bill wa3 put through all its stages and passed.
