There has been a slight relapse in general business. Potatoes are scarce and in demand. Fungus is in demand at 3|d. Maize has soen a sharp rise. Quotations are as follows : — Fresh butter: Firsts, 7d per 1b; seconds, 6d; primo salt butter, 8d; seconds, 7d; cheese, local, 4d to 5d perlb; factory, s|d to 6f d; eggs, 6d doz ; hams (in cloth), 7d to 7|d ; bacon (in cloth), 5d to 6d ; roller flour. £7 lOjs ; makers 8d to 2s 8d (ex wharf) ; oats, feed, 2s 4d to 2s 6d; wheat, 2s 5d to 2s lOd; fowl wheat, 2s 6d ; oatmeal (25'), £10 ; potatoes, 60s to 70s; seed potatoes, 70s to 90s. Gratx Fodder, &fc. — Messrs Buckland & Sons report that meadow hay was Is 6d and Is 9d cwt; straw, 21s to. 32s the load or 2s to 2s 6d cwt; at auction inferior chaff at £1 10s to £2 13s; potatoes, inferior seed, £2; wheat meal £3 5s per ton, ex store; oats, 2s 3d to 2s sd; wheat, 2s 8d to 2s 9d; maize, 2s 7dto 2s 8d; maize, ex wharf, 2s 5d to 2s 6d. Wool, Hides, Skins, &c— Messrs Binney & Son's report that they cleared a large catalogue hides, &c. Hides : Prime ox, 6d to 7d; extra stout, ssd to s|d; stout, 4£d to sd; medium aud light, 3|d to 4d ; cow, 3Jd to 3fd; seconds, 3d to 3Jd; kip, 3fd to 4sd; calf, 6Jd; stags, 2d to 2sd per lb. Sheepskins : Green and salted, largo 4s 3d to 4b 6d ; ordinary, 3s 8d to 3s lOd; small. 2s lOd to 3s ; lambs, lOd to Is 3d ; dry skins, 3s to 3s 6d ; pelts, 4d to 2seach. Tallow: Pickedf or tanners use,2os 6d;ordinary, 17sto 19spercwt.; rough fat, Id to lsd per lb.— Messrs Buckland and Sons report that sheepskins sold up to 4s and 4s 2d for best heavy, lighter 3s 4d to 3s Od, the greater number at 2s 6d to 3s 3d; damaged, Is 4d to 2s; lambskins, lOd; pelts, 8d to lOd each ; wool sold at 2d to 3sd for pieces,i4sd to 4Jd for longwool, and 5d per lb for crossbred. Hides sold freoly: ox, up to 4|d; cow, 3£d to 3|d ; calfskins, 4Jd to 5Jd per lb. Tails, 2s the dozen ; horsehair, Is and Is Id perlb; tallow, 16s to- 18s for ordinary, 23s for best; rough fat, lsd to l|d per lb. Horse Stock, &c. — Messrs Buckland & Sonsreport : — Horses: At the Haymarket on Friday last prices were good and competition keen for all usoful 'horses. A pair of waggon horses sold at L 47 10s, active spring cart horses LlB 10s to L2O 10s, draughts or shatters L 27 to L 42, young light harness horses LlO to Ll4-, hacks and gig horses L 6to L 9. Cattle, Sheep, &c. — Messrs Buckland arid Sons .report that at Remuera on Thursday dairy cows at profit brought from 80s to 140s each; dry cows, 40s to 67s 6d; fat and young calves, better worth, fresh dropped, 4s to 9s e'ich; medium, 12s to 16s; heavy, up to 65s — 60 sold. Fat cattle, in average numbers, improved in value, and brought from 21s to 26s the 1001 b; Bteers, from L 7 5s to Ll2 each; cows, L 4 to L 8 —220 sold. Fat sheep wore in fair supply at late values. Wethers, from 16s to 20s; each; owes, 14s to 18s (1000 sold); lambs sold freoly from 7s 3d to 13s each (130 Bold). Fat pigs of good quality were in demand; rough store pigs, at low values; porkers, from 20s to 27b each; baconors, up to 40s; small, 4s to 8s (60 sold). At the Cattle Fair at Eemucra yards on Monday there was a good muster of stock (o\ur 1000 yarded), which sold freely ut high values; grown steers in fresh condition sold from L 6 10s to L 7 19s each; 2 to 3-year-old steers, L 4 10s to L 6; yearlings, L 2 to L 2 15s; dry cows, Jj2 ids to L 3 10s; shorthorn bulls, from

L99s to LlB. There was a large muster of stock at Waiuku on Saturday, which sold at good values; dairy co«vs sold up to L 6 10s each; store cattle, L 3 10s io L 6 10s; strong calves, LI to LI 15s.— The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd, report as follows : — Cattle —At the Newmarket yards on Tuesday dairy and store stock in larger numbers than usual met a steady sale at improved rates. Dairy cows from L3ss to L 8; grown steers in fresh condition up to L 6 Is; empty cows, L 2 18s to L 3 17s. Beef in full numbers, ox beef sold at from 21s to 24s per 1001 b, and in a few cases LI 5s was reached; steers fromLß 10s to Ll2 10s; cows, L 4 to LB. Sheep from 14s to 6d to 22s 9d; ewes, 13s to 18s 6d; the store ewes and lambs, 16s; lambs in large numbers met a brisk sale at 8s 9d to 12s 9d; pigs more plentiful ; porkers from 18s to LI 19s; weaners, 5s 6d to 10s 9d.
