TARANAKI TRUSTS.
At the Diocesan Synod in Auckland on Wednesday the Select Committee of the Taranaki Trusts brought up their report, and asked that- the matter should have precedence of other business as one of the New Plymouth representatives had to return to Taranaki next day. This was agreed to, and Mr C. M. Calder then moved the adoption of the report, which embodied the following resolutions :—l.: — 1. "That the sum of L 2552 16s 7d, being a portion of the Taranaki Trust, be applied as an endowment for St Mary's Parish, New Plymouth, and that the Trust Board appoint trustees, and have the necessary trust deed prepared." 2. "That the sum of L 685 13s 3d, being a further portion of the Taranaki Trust, be held as an endowment for the maintenance of the clergy within the Archdeaconry of Taranaki by trustees appointed by the Trust Board, and that the necessary deed of trust for the purpose be prepared." 3. "That the trustees of the Taranaki Trust be directed and authorised to allocate the income derived from the sum of LfeO32 6s 2d for the year beginning April 1, 1901, as follows : — (A) Parochial district of Waitara, one-fifth; (b) parochial district of Okato, one-fifth; (c) parochial/district of Inglewood, one-fifth; d) parochial district ofStratford, one-fifth; (c) for ontdistrict work within the Archdeaconry of Taranaki, one-tenth; (p) for Maori mission work within the Archdeaconry of Taranaki, one-tenth." In speaking on the report the Rev Canon HaseWen referred iv kindly terms to the large-heartedness of the parishioners of St Mary's, New Plymouth, and said that the Vestry had waived for the present the right of their parish to participate in the annual allocation of the income arising from the trust funds of the Taranaki district.
Mr F. P. Corkill thanked the Synod for the consideration which had been shown him personally in suspending the standing orders to enable the Taranaki business to be disposed of that day. He also, on behalf of the Vestry of St. Mary's, expressed their gratitude for the fraternal spirit displayed by the members Of the Synod with whom they had come in contact during the session, and especially to his colleagues on the Select Committee, who, during four hours' investigation of the Taranaki business, had displayed the utmost consideration, while seeing that justice was done to the out parishes. In reply to enquiries by several members of the Synod, Mr W. H. Skinner expressed his willingnp-i to read a very interesting histoi^ of St. Mary's Parish, which he had compiled in cennection with the special business of the Trust properties, and which contained a very lucid statement of the position of the Various Trusts in Taranaki, but the Synod' was so satisfied with the report presented by tho Select Committee that it was unnecessary to do so. No doubt the parishioners of St. Mary's will have an opportunity of recognising the exceedingly valuable sorvicos rendered by Mr Skinner in connection with their business afEuirs.
