HOCKEY.

The members of the Hawera Hockey team, who played New Plymouth on the racecourse this (Thursday) afternoon, were entertained by the local Club at a mid-day dinner, which was held in the White Hart Hotel. Mr F. P. Corkill, the Vice-President, in the absence of the President, Dr. Hutehinson, made a brief speech. He welcomed the Hawera team to New Plymouth on this their first visit, which ho hoped was the forerunner of many pleasant reunions. The Hawera team left for home by the afternoon train, the game being con eluded in order to enable them to do so. A meeting of ladies interested in forming' a Hockey Club was held on Wednesday night, when it was resolved that a club be formed if a sufficient number of names were handed in to the secretary before Thursday next. The subscription was fixed at 2s 6d.
