Dr. Barnardo's Home.

Mrs T. Kelly has received the following letter from Dr. Barnardo :—: — " Stepney Causeway, " London, 31st January, 1900. " Dear Madam, — Your generous and kindly gift from over the seas finds a most cordial welcome at this season of many claims, and I thank you and your friends who have so kindly so-operated with you most heartily for this substantial addition to the funds of these Homes. I enclose my official receipts herewith showing that the money has been placed to the two which you mention — £16 to ' Boys' Home ' fund, for one year's maintenance of boy ; £8 15s to ' Babies Castle.' This gift is peculiarly opportune, coming as it does at a time when we, in conjunction with other charities, are suffering considerably on account of the divergence of moneys to the various war funds now being organised on behalf of the widows and orphans of our brave soldiers in South Africa. Of course, whilst we are pleased to see that such a worthy object is meeting with the enthusiastic reception which it undoubtedly deserves, still it is obvious that when special calls are made upon the pockets of the benevolent in any particular cause some other cause is bound to suffer. I need hardly add that lam greatly encouraged by your loyal and warm hearted remembrance of the claims of these little ones, whose sad condition appeals so strongly to every heart. — Believe me to be, very faithfully and gratefully yours in Christ's service, Thos. J. Barxardo.
