BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The Borough Council met on Monday night. Presont : The Mayor (Mr E Doekrill), Mess's Belli inger, Clow, Lealand, Collis, Avery, Stohr, Brooking, and

Cattley. A letter was read from Mr F P. Corkill objecting to tho noisa anl inconvenience caused in the street by people delivering addresses. The writer, in particular,

mentioned Mrs Hirrison Lee, stating that

The Engineer reported that he had effected rspairs to tli9 belting at the waterworks. The Works Committee recommended tbat whenever necessary the Borough Turncock attend on the railway workmen at Po^derhatn-street bridge; that the first premium bo awa'dod to "Fiat Lux' for the improved waterworks and electric lighting schjmes submitted by him, and that for the reasons stated by tho jidge no sscoud award ba made ; that Mr Mettiyer's report and the schemes be considered at the next meeting of tha Council, or at a special meetiug, as the Council may decide; that pipes or an open gutter ba made at tin junction of Fulford nal Diwson Btreets — The Chairman Bii 1 he nndewtooJ all of tha Councillors were awar t of the reasons whijh led the Committee to make the reornmendation regarding the watenvorks md electric ligb iigtehcm s.— Mr Collis sated that he had baen unable to go thoroughly through tbe report?, and he suggested consideration of the Committee's reconimondation ba deferred until the whole question is considered. — The Mayor pointed out that tha Council was bound to the award made by Ih- j adge,and to pay the person to whom the award is mada. — Mr Co Us: Than, do I understand that the scheme which secures the award is-an improvement on the present scheme ?— The Mayor: Yes —Mr Stohr said if Councillor Ooliis would wait and read the report ha would see that tha scheme secu-ing first award waa an improvement — Tha Committee's report was then adopted. Accounts amounting to £ IGB 163 were passed for payment. This brings the overdraft v? to £2*62 6s 6 J. Several Councillors drew attention to the necessity of repairs in certain streets.
