J Sir,— l notice by correspondence in your paper thac amongst other super- I fluities supplied to the Waterworks are mats, and I have been puzzling my brains to think where they have been put. Cm you tell me ? Have they been placed at the top and bottom of the ladder, or just inside the gate from the road, or where ? Sir, — Thanks for your outspoken utterances ro Borough finances. Iv this connection I notico your contemporary has an article dealing with the matter, but in order to try and mako out h good case bad to bring in the works for a' period of two years, whereas you were dealing with the balance-sheet for the current year. And even admitting the works enumerated bavo boon done, they havo not boen dono out of revenue, as, if you look at the overdraft, it in sc me £1000 more than when the works were started, of which tho News tries to make so much. Ho the prinoipal part of- them hJve been done out of overdraft, then what have we to show for tho expenditure of our ordinary revenue ?— I am, &c,
