Cairo, October 3. — The Dervishes' attempted to retake Kedarefl, but were badly repulsed. t A contingent, from Omdurman halt reinforced Kedareff, to enable 'LientenantColonel Parsons to clear tha province of •Dervishfcs. It is believed here that Captain Mais' cband will shortly evacuate Fashoda. Officers from there report that Captaia Marchand's position was critical whien relieved. He was entrenched on a tongue of land surrounded by menacing patives. Many of hia own followers bad deserted, and the rest were delighted when rescued. Captain Marchand was informed that such ineffective occupation was untenable.
