Ota go defeated Wellington on the latter's ground on Wednesday by nine points to nil. A strong wind«?blew down the ground, which kept the side playing against it mostly on the defensive, and prevented much really open play. Otaso had the wind in their favour in the first spell, and scored two tries, followed by another shortly after the game was resumed. No goals were kicked. Wellington twice took the ball over the line, but on each occasion failed to secure it-, though they should have done co. The Otago backs were very strong, both in attack , and defence, and the score was wholly their work, Duncan, Armit, and Stephenson crossing the line. The passing was extremely accurate ; that of their opponents the reverse. The Wellington forwards put in a lot of good work, and on the whole wfere (superior to the others. The Clerks' match is being played in tbe Recreation Grounds as we go to Press. The losing team will entertain the winners, at a dinner to-night.
