OPERATIONS IN THE SOUDAN.
» CAPTURE OF A DERVISH STRONGHOLD. [per press association.] Cairo, August 9.— The advance column under Brigadisr-General Hunter, o£ the Anglo-Egyptian expedition to the Soudan, captured the town of Abu-Hamed, between Dongola and Berber. The attack was made on Saturday last. The Dervishes made a stubborn resist ance, the town only being captured after severe hand-to-hand fighting. Among those killed were Major Henry Marlow Sidney, of the Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry, and Lieutenant Edward FitzClarence, of' the Dorsetshire Regiment.
