To read the letter anyone not knowing wW,! Mr Smith was would naturally think that he waa some benevolent »,or .philanthropic gentleman - resident in Wellington, who out, of puret loVe for Taranaki was constantly doing all he could for the' place. If Mr Peck was pacing a man £240 to do certain work and look after his interests, would he consider, it his duty to specially praise him iot d«ng what he wa« paid for ? ' I think, not., Mr' Peck frankly .admits that it is an eleptioneeripg aci., as he saysi" in view of the coming election;" and in view of recent eyents one is led to ' pause and ask if the puffing cables about the IronBand Company and the wonderful account m the Iron, and Steel Journal on the same subjeot are to be classed in the same category.— l am, &c., Anti-Humbug.
