To read the letter anyone not knowing wW,! Mr Smith was would naturally think that he waa some benevolent »,or .philanthropic gentleman - resident in Wellington, who out, of puret loVe for Taranaki was constantly doing all he could for the' place. If Mr Peck was pacing a man £240 to do certain work and look after his interests, would he consider, it his duty to specially praise him iot d«ng what he wa« paid for ?
