Mr F. P. Corkill asks us to state that in consequence of the wet weather preVenting intending purchasers from viewing Mr Buckthought's farm at Tataraimaka, the time for receiving tenders has been extended to Friday next, July 10. The Anti-treating Bill, making it a misdemeanor " for- any ptrson to treat or offer 'to treat 'another person to an intoxicating drink, or to give or offer to give another person an intoxicating drink in any place were liquor is sold," passed the Ohio House. 1 An experimsnt has been made near Worcester of making stockings and gloves from paper. It has proved the greatest success. The texture is given solidity and durability by being placed in a bath consisting of a mixture of tallow and potato starch, and, when fiuiahed, its appearance is said to closely resemble the articles made from wool and cotton. Mr T. Tankard, director of the New Plymouth Gymnasium Club, writes thanking us for the prominence given to gymnasium affairs in the columns of the Herald, and giving us a hearty invitation to call in and see the work done at any time. On Friday night the Club had a splendid practice, which was witnessed by ovor ono hundred spectators. _ '' Lifeboat Saturday" was for tho first time observed in London on May 16. demonstrations and collections being made chiefly in the districts of Camden and Kentioh Towns, Southwark, and Lambeth. The boys of the training ship Arelhusa had charge of the collecting boxes. In connection wiifc tho festival thero were special displays at the Imperial Institute both in the afternoon and evening. An old Scotchman who bad been a long time in the colonies paid a visit- to his native glen, and meeting an old schoolfellow, they sat down to have a talk about old times and old acquaintances. In the course of conversation the stranger happened to ask abfut a certain Goor t « M'Kay. " He's deid lang seine," said his friend, " and I'll uevar cease regrettin' him a 9 lang as I live." " Dear me ! Had you such a great respect for him as that?" " Na, na,; ,it wisna any respec' I had for himsel'. but I marriet his widow !"
