Melbourne, July 3., A cablegram received from the British Consul at Monte Video announces that a man has been arrested there who answers to the description of Geakey the Daylesford fugitive solicitor. The person in custody armed by the s.s. Runhine, which left- Lyttelton for London on , Juno 11th. /The patentees of the cyanide process intend to make a further appeal to be allowed to amend their patent rights in Victoria. The proposed attempt will, it is understood, be on different lines, to the application which was recently refused. The Supreme Court has given its consent to the initiation of proceedings against four directors and the auditors of the City of Melbourne Bank in connection with the issue of alleged false balance-sheets. Sydnbt, July 3. The Civil Servico Board has made over 200 retrenchments in the Post and Telegraph Departments, which, it is believed, will effect a saving of upwards of £51,000 per annum. By a fire at a dwelling at Katoomba, to-day, four children named Buchiier were burned to death. Sydney, July 4. Divers are still at work endeavouring to secure the gold which went down with the ill-fated steamer Catterthun. The first attempt to blow open the steamer's strong-room 1 failed, but it is fully expected that the treasure will be recovered in a day or so. Brisbane, July 8. The year's revenue is £3,641,000, showing an increase of £222,000 over la6t year ; expenditure, £8,568,000, an increase of £260,000.
