LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL.
Tuesday, June 30.— The Speaker took the chair at 2.30 p.m.
Hon Mr Holmes resumed the debate on the second reading of tho Asiatic Restriction Bill, and upon Hon Mr Shrirnski's adverse amendment. Ho upheld the principle of the bill. Hou Messrs Reeves and Bolt spoke in support of the bill, and Hon Messrs Richardson, Scotland, aad Bonar against it. On division the voting resulted in a tie, the ayes and noes being each 15. The Speaker thereupon gave his casting vote against the second reading, the bill thus being thrown out. The division Hit was as follows :— Ayes (for bill), 15 : Stewart, Baillie, Barnicoat, Arkwright, Kerr, Rigg, Jones, Jenkinson, Reeves, Feldwiojj, Kenny, Jennings, Bolt/ Montgomery, and Walker. Noes, (against bill), 16 : Scotland, Richardson, Acland, Swanson, Shrimski, Pharazyn, Williams, Taiaroa, Bonar, Stevens, White, Bowen, Johnston, Urace, Holmes, and Miller' (casting vote). The Council then adjourned.
