EDUCATION BOARD.

Tiid Board mot on Wednesday. Present: Miss Heywood, Messrs Bauchope (chairman), Hill, Faull, Ambury, Mackay, Allswoith, Adlam, and Wade. The Board decided on its rising to adjourn till Thursday, at 11 a.m., for the purpose of conferring with the High School Board of Governors on tho question of scholarships. Tho Board agreed to pay £1 for £1 with the Waipuku Committee for making the approach to tho school on its new site and gravelling tbe same. The Architect's report was read, and in connection therewith the Board decided to settle with tho contractor for Purangi School, as recommended by the Architect; this offer to bo made without prejudice to the Board's claim for penalties for non-completion of contract if the offer is not accepted. A letter from tho Cardiff Committee was referred to tho chairman to attend to. A letter from tho Fitzroy Committee asking for School requirements was referred to the chairman. Consideration of various protests against the election of different Commitees was postponed till next meeting. Ths resignation of Mr Bourke as teacher and Mrs Bourke as sewiug mistre s of the Tarata School were rec9ived and accepted, to take offect on June 15th. Applications for a mistress as requested by tho Committee will be culled for. Applications will be invited for sewing mistress at Bird Road School. Tho Carrington Road Committee will be allowed to close the school at 2.30 p.m. and make the recess for dinner half-an-hour as provided by the regulations. The Salisbury Road Committee will be informed that the school sito is primarily for the usrt of tho children and teacher, ■ and the Board acts no objection to tho Committee giving permission to persons to cut firewood for tho übo of tho school. The action of tho Salisbury Road Committee in giving Miss Gayne leave of absence from May 5 to 12 was approved. The Secretary was instructed to ask for a rough tracing of the proposed fencing at Pukearuhc and estimate of cost. A letter from Mr S. Lintern with referenco to leasing part of the Toko school reserve was referred to the Toko Committee. The Inspector-General notified that certain concessions can be granted to students and scholars under the age of 20, desire to travel by railway on Saturday to attend classes at a recognised technical school. Tho concessions wero specified. — The letter was acknowledged with thanks. Letter from Bell Block Committee re Upland Road School requirements was referred to the Chairman. Mr Adlam recommonded the Board to grart the Pungarehu Committee £5 towards cost of sinking well. — The Board decided to give effect to tho recomirendation. Mr Fault gave notice of motion, That tho Board consider the Inspector's report of the schools in the district for the year 1895. Mrs A. Bayly will bo requested to put fences in good repair and cut ana root up all blackberries within three months from dato on the school site at Waitara East. Mr G. Pearce will be requostod to do the same in respect to block 118, Waitara West. Mr Faull, who reported on the lands, was accorded a vote of thanks.

Mr Allsworth gave notico of motion, "That a Committee, consisting of the Chairman, Messrs Fault, Wade, and Mackay, and the »over, bo appointed to revise the regulations re appointment of teachers, scale of aalaries, and staffing of schools."
