STRATFORD NEWS
[FEOM OUE_ RESIDENT AGENT.J May 11. — Among tho numerous subscription Hats going round just now there is one, I hear, to form a fund for prosecuting the Herald for a libel on Stratford weather. Tho libel, I regret to say, was contained in my last epistle, and was, I admit, most outrageous and unjustifiable. So far from the rain raining every day here, we are now so accustomed to fine weather as to have almost forgotten what rain is like. It is at the least three whole days since there was even a shower. 'She band instrument case, Collier & Co. v. Town Board, which was to have come on for hearing this week at the Hawora District Court is likely to lapse. The townspeople have subscribed most of the money to pay Collier's claim, and so have relieved the community of what was justly regarded as a not very creditable liability. Ihe Hon J. G. Ward is to be fed and palaveredatthe County Hotel on Wednesday evening after giving his address. Tickets, five bob. " The Bowling Club has been formed, officers appointed, &c, &o. There are, of course, a few preliminaries in the way of procuring the land, levelling, grassing, fencing, and the like, and then you old New_ Plymouthitos may look to your bowling laurels.
