ATTITUDE OF EUROPEAN PRESS. I.PEK PREBB AB3OCIATION.J Capetown, May 10.— A petition is being signed in Buluwayo asking for Mr Rhodes to be retained in the Chartered Company. The Dutch Press has adopted a more friendly attitude, but the Berlin Pres3 denounces Mr Chamberlain for defending Mr Rhodes. London, May 11.— Mr Asquith, speaking at Trowbridge, said the recent disclosures had strained the British claim to being the paramount power in South j Africa. He regretted the departure from a strong and consistent line of policy. Prompt enquiry was demanded.
