[from a correspondent.] A complimentary social and dance wan given MrG. W. Gane, J.P., in the school on Friday night, April 24th, in recognition of bis valuable services to the district; during the last ten years in tbe matter of ' education. Messrs Kirkwood and Silvester proposed a hearty vote of thanks to Mr Gane, and the chairman then called x'or ' cheers for Mr aad Mrs Gano and family* ' Mr Gane briefly aad feelingly thanked the gathering and othera who had appreciated his works. He had striven to do his duty to his fellow settlers, the young particularly, in education, and in future he would continue to do so, without asking or expecting any recompense-. The chairman thanked the ladies and gentlemen for their assistance, and Messrs Tyrell and Kirkwood proposed a vote o£ - thanks to all who had assisted in th« • movement.
