The Premier has instructed the Agent-General to impress on the Ira perial Government tho importance of the Pacific cahle, and the necessity of an early representative conference to discuss the subject. He also urges on Mr Gil'iea to endeavour to secure the cooperation of the Agents General of the other colonies. Yesterday was tho last day for tho payment of tho Income Tax. Tho amount received to date is ,£140,000, but considerable payments by post ara still due. About 3000 appeals have been lodged. At a meeting of of tho j Broken Hill Central Mine, sonic strong remarks were passed anenfc the proposed sale of property. One speaker alleged the syudicate wanted the mine for theuew secret process of treatment of sulphides. The Supremo Court has sanctioned the compromiso arranged by the creditors in the bankrupt estate of Alfred Shaw. The shareholders of thq Contral mine adjourned without taking any definite action. Two teamsters, Mulligan and Digar, carrying rations to tho Victoria Down stution, were attacked by a large mob of blacks. Digar, although badly speared, assisted Mnliignn to make n barricade among the wagons with flour bags, They stood the seige for three hours, and then drovo off the assailants with rifles, and escaped. The blacks returned nod looted tho camp, and then made off.
