SAD DEATH OF MR G. W. WOON.
We gather fuller particulars as to the cause of the death of Mr Garland W. Woon from the Wangauui Chronicle. It appears that Mr Woon left the Native ll r jands Court office on Thursday afternoon *t about 4.45 o'clock, walking up as fa r as the corner of BoUon Row and ths Ri ver Bank with Mr C. Jones, of the Nai l ive Office. At that corner Mr Woon part ed from his companion and continued his ' way home. Apparently with the objec ;t of looking after his boat, which was kept ( moored off a landing just oppos ite his residence, Mr Woon turned and descended the steps to the river bank. The supposition, which almost amounts to a certainty, is that while standing near tho steps the unfortu nate gentleman suffered a sudden failure of tbe heart, fell into the water ant? mot his fate. As ho did not return as usual the alarm was given by his son, Mr Jame.s R. Woon, who, with Mr James Garland Woon, the deceased's brother, made inquiries in all quarters and communicatetd with the police. On Friday, at about )' o'clock, the deceased's walking stirk was : found near the steps, and shortly after 3 o'clock the body was discovered by the police a few yards from where Mr, Woon must have fallen. He has been living on his place at Raorikia, "VVanganui River, fanning With Ilia tWO elder sons and coming to town frequently in his boat, doing native work as an interpreter under the Native Land Court Acts, &3. Ha was, as a matter of fact, engaged' in work of this kind only a few hours before ha was struck down. The deceased gentleman leaves a widow, three grown up sons, and a number of grandchildren to mourn their loss.
