Oil speculation seems to have directed attention of local capitalists during the past week. The Petroleum Company, with a capital of £50,000, 'divided into £1 shares, has met with considerable success. Shoqld result of the undertaking prove equal to the anticipation, New Plymouth, without doubt, will soon become the centre of attraction. The Freezing Company, which, fortunately, was formed prior to the oiljever, deserves first place, for no doubt all ~our settlers cannot expect to live on profits from the oil wells,' and the preservation of but staple products should be the first aim pf residents.
