MR C. T. MILLS' NEW OFFICES. New and spacious offices have just been completed for Mr C. T. Mills, clerk of the Taranaki County Council and Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, on a site opposite the Alexandra Hall. The building, which is two Btoried, has been planned with a view to convenience and comfort. The main entrance is through a pair of glass swing doors, which leads into the public office-^-20ft x 14ft Gin,— the ceiling of which, is handsomely panelled in kauri, anil the^ 'walls papered. A brick st»ng-rootn is* fitted in under the stairs. Opening off the public room is Mr Mills' private ofiice (}4f t x 12ft), and a Board room (19$ * 16ft), which also has a panelled kauri ceiling. Particular attention has also" been paid to tho ventilation of the Board room. The whole of the woodwork is varnished, and the fireplace is finished vfiih a handsome mantel in kauri and rimu. On tho top floor there are four room y offices, reached by a staircase 4ft Gin wide, with a lavatory on the landing. The architect was Mr Frank Messenger, who must be complimented on the planning, &c. Mr R. N. Hooker, the contractor, has carried out his work in a thoroughly efficient manner. The sub - contractors were :—: — Mr N. Hooker (bricklaying), and Messrs Okeys, Arnold, and Earp (painting and ' paporhanging). The timber was supplied by Messrs Henry Brown aud Co. In an account of the women's football match in London, tho St. James's Gazette says : " They were a scratch lot. Big gals Borne of 'em, who ran like vestry cart•horses. Others, mere slips of gals, as thin as laths. Tho mob howled with delight j and derision. Twelve or thirteen thousand men simply doubled up with laughter. They couldn t play a bit. Women can't. J They're not built the right Way for football. They can't run and they can't kick. They hopped and danced about tho ball, and then gave it a , bit of a shove and walked after it. After about a quarter of an hour their back hair camo down, and they panted like gramp.uses. Then they sucked lemons, and a more ludicrous sight you never saw." A few hours before Bishop Moran died, he insisted upon having his couch drawn to tho window of bis room, iv order that he might soo the funeral procession of the Cathedral sacristan, Mr Joseph McCawe, who diod on tho provious Sunday. Tho Bishop's def ectivo eyesight prevented him at first from discorning any objects at such a distance, and ho called for bia far-seeing spectacles. These wore handed to him, and with thoir aid he was enabled to see tho funeral procession. "I'll bo the next" were his words as he sank back, and less than throo hours afterwards his earthly struggle vas at an end.
