Duffin was engaged to-day (Thursday), attending to matters connected with his position as Inspector under " The Factories Act," and " The Shop and Shop Assistants Act." Mr James Coates, general manager of the National Bank of New Zealand, is in Auckland just now on a short holiday visit (says tho Star), and is receiving a hearty welcome and many cordial congratulations from his innumerable friends in this city. Mr Coates takes a very hopeful view of the commercial outlook in New Zoaland, and is of opinion that the colony is making steadj' and solid progress, which is being shared in the fullest measure by th« important financial institution with which ho is connected.
