[*'ROM OUR OWN COKUEBPONDENT]. December 31. — Tho Inglewood contingent of tho Hawera Mounted Kifles fired 'a scratch match s.t their butts on Wednesday last. The following are the scores : — Lieut. R. H. Davies, 42 ; Troopers Sharrod, 27; W. Pennington, 37; Wills, 36; H. Taylor, 27; P. Surrey, 26; Harkncsß, 23; Twcedie, 35 ; Sergt. L. C. Sladden, 49; Troopers C. Turner, 51; A. E. Surrey, 38; Vail, 28; Bugler Massicks, 1(5; Troopers C. P. Rogers, -15; L. Rogers, 23. Several of those who fired are recruits, which accounts for the low bcoring. Ono of the bquad, who did not scorn to bo acquainted with tho recoil of the old Snider carbine, exclaimed that his shoulder was nearly knocked out. He said he "would uover again fire out of one of them d cannons." The Inglewood YohmtoorFire Brigade held a special meeting in the reading room on the 28th December, Captain Rogers in the chair. It was decided to have in entertainment and dahce next February. Ono fireman is to be detailed weekly to see that the brigado buckets are kept in their Iproper places, clean and filled with water. Thero were three services held in the Inglewood Wosloyan new Church on .Sunday. Tho church was overcrowded each time. Several pcoplo ware standing in the porch and outside. The Rev. Mr; Jones and Rev Mr Hammond W6"o the ministers who presided. As I have before ruontioned it will not bo long before the Wesloyans will have to enlarge the presont place of worship.
