The Opunake Racing Club were again unfortunate in having wet weather for their annual fixture, but despite the weather the gathering was a very enjoyable one, and some good racing was witnessed by those who attended. The officers of the club all worked well to ensure the success of the meeting, especially Mr G. W. Rogers, the hon. secretary, who carried out his duties with characteristic thoroughness. The Opuuake Band, under Mr Cummins, played some excellent music during the day. The machine was worked by Mr AdarriSj Of Adams and Andrews) of Auckland, and during the day they passed £1464 through the machine. On the fall of the flag Egmont took command, and making the most use of his pace Evett kept him in the lead all the way, winning by a couple of lengths from Conscript, who came through the last hurdle. Mr Wills had a little trouble in getting a despatch. First Kaitoa bolted, and then Re wa's rider was attempting to get a flying start. However, on the dip of the flag Rewa was quickest on his legs and took command, closely followed by Jacobite and Silver Sea. The race resolved itself into a fight between the three, and after a good finish under the whip Rewa got home by three-quarters of a length. Jacobite a good third. Time, lmin 21 2-ssecs. Egmout won by a length, but a protest was entered by tho owner of the second on the ground that Egmont did nob carry 71bs penalty after winning tho Hurdles. The stewards upheld the protest. Disraeli went off at a great bat, and looked all over a winner till rounding into the straight, when Jacobite and Silver Sea closed up, and after a dosperate race up the straight Jacobite ran homo a winner by a length.
