GYMNASIUM AND VOLUNTEER SPORTS.

The wet weather on Now Year's Day affected the patronage that would have been accorded Jie sports, which were held in the Recreation Grounds. The sports wcro carried out in a thorough manner, Mr E. Beano, tho hon. secretary, and Mr C. W. Hendrey, tho Captain of the Club, being foremost in seeing that matters ran smoothly. Tho gymnastic display was very good, the exercises being done neatly and cleverly. Mr Wilson, a^upil of Professor Carollo, of Auckland, did some neat feats. The Cown Band, under Mr G. Garry, were in attendance and played oxcellent music during the day. Appended are tho results : — Maiden Race, 150 yards.— A Cliff, 1 ; E. Kivoll, 2. Sack Race, of 75 yards ; trophy, value 10s.— W.
