GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF NEW ZEALAND.

HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES. Monday, September 19. — The Speaker took the chair at 2.80 p.m. DEATH OK THE HON. ROBERT HART. The Premier rose to move the adjournment of the House out of a mark of respect to tho memory of the late Hon. Robert Hart, M.L.C. In doing so he paid a high tribute to one who, as a colonist, public servant, and private citizen, had done his duty faithfully and well. Mr Mitchelson, in seconding the motion endorsed all that had been said by tho Premier. Sir R. Stout said it was proper, as a mark of respect to one who was an old settler, and who had borne the heat and burden of his day, that the House should adjourn. He mentioned that in his timo the lata-Hon. Mr Hart was looked upon as one of the ablest lawyers in New Zealand. Dr. Newman, who also spoke, pointed out that the late Mr Hart was the last link that bound the first Parliament in 1854 and this Parliament, and one of his last acts was to rise from a sick bed to vote for tho enfranchisement of women. It would also be interesting to members to know that ono of the first measures he identified himself with was the bill affecting the Bauk of New Zealand, with the object of improving the state of banking in cho colony. The House then rose.
