</■ — The amount of accounts passed at the Borough Council meeting on Monday night was £249 ißs 7d. The amount of rates collected since previous meeting was £223 14s 6d, and sundries £33 12s. The overdraft is £1056, and the amount of rates uncollected £2512 13s Cd. Messrs Curtis Bros, intend to lose no time in re-building on the site of the late fire at Stratford ; Mr Warren, architect, invites tenders in this issue for three shops. Tenders are invited in another column for felling bnsh. Tho Crown Lands Department is now offering for selection sixteen sections of lands, varying from 41 to 137 acres in area, adjoining the North Egmont Forest Reserve. The land is distant only 11 miles from New Plymouth, and ton from Inglewood, and is offered at low rates, as that it should be readily taken up. Messrs Napier Bell and Maxwell, consulting ongineors employed by the Napier Harbour Beard, have presented their report on tho breakwater. They estimate that to make good the damage by the late gales and to thoroughly strengthen that portion of the work will cost £ll>,ooo, but they add that in works of that nature much more serious damage is common. They also recommend the strengthening of the future works and widening of the rubble foundation. They estimate that when the work is completed a much larger enclosed harbor than was originally contemplated, with more berthage accommodation, will be provided at a smaller cost than was estimated by the consulting engineers (one of whom was Mr Bell) employed to report on Mr Goodall's original scheme before the breakwater was commenced. The New Zealand Times gives the meaning of Petone as " tho end of the sandwich." The PoU says it is correctly " the end of tho sand." Perhaps what was intended was the end of the sand which isa 6 Pctone. Messrs White & Carter announce their first spring and summer show of seasonable goods for to-morrow (Wednesday). St Andrew's Church. —A meeting of the congregation will be held (D.Y.) on Thursday evening next at half-past 7, to move in the matter of calling a minister to the vacancy caused by tho resignation of the Rev Charles Macdonald.—Auvr.
