LAWN TENNIS.

NEW PLYMOUTH V. HAWERA. On Friday afternoon last, a team oi tennis players, representing the New Plymouth. Tennis Club, went to Hawera to play a return match against the Hawern Club. The two Clubs met on the New Plymouth Club's courts early in Decembei last, when the local team was beaten, as was also the ease -when «. JJevr Plymouth team visited Hawera on last St. Patrick's Day. The New Plymouth team, on Saturday last, was composed of four ladies Misses Hamerton, Marshall, Webstei and Read, and six gentlemen, Messrs Harden, Westou, Wilson, Little, Wiggim and Rolleston. Play was commenced at about 10 o'clock and kept up till aboul H, when the visitors had to leave by train A very strong wind w;is blowing all the time whi'-h, added to the slight showers which fell from time to time, rathei detracted from the otherwise very enjoyable game, rendered all the more enjoyable by the fact that the New Plymouth team scored a win by 107 games to 103. There was a fair attendance of onlookers at the courts, but the weather, no doubt, prevented many from coining. The Hawera Club was represented by Miss R. Duckworth, Miss F. Duckworth, Mr Esse, and Miss Lysaght, and Messrs Frank Smith, Mair, Tonks, Wallich, Major, and Strouts. Owing to the early departure of the train all the matches were not played, those omitted being Misses Marshall and Read (New Plymouth), and Mr Esse and Miss Lysaght (Hawera), Miss Read (N.P.) v. Miss Lysaght (H.), Mr Little (N.P.) Mr Wallich (H.), while the single between Mr Tonks and Mr Wilson was shortened to allow the latter to get away by the train.
