The Taranaki gelding Union Jack has been nominated for the Trial and pig Steeplechase and the ex Taranaki gelding Mutiny for the Hardies at the Wellington Winter Meeting, which takes place on July 8. Captain Edwin telegraphed at 1.30 p.m. to-day '.—"lndications for frost to-night-and for increasing tides after midnight." We have had to hold over til to-morrow Mr Corkill's letter on Mr E. M. Smith's expenses to Wellington, The secrotarj of the Recreation Grounds Board begs to acknowledge receipt of a parcel of shrubs from Mr J. C. Davies, Auckland. On the motion of Mr Samuel the will of Johann Richard Gernhcofor, of Inglewood, f aimer, dec ased, was proved in the Supreme Court of New Zealand, northern (Taranaki) district, and probate granted John Veafe Dingle and John Luke the executors named in tho will.' We have recoived a copy of a certificato to be awarded by the " Taranaki Poultry, Pigeon, and Canary Association " to the prizetakers at the next nbow, which has been very neatly lithographed in three colors at Mr W. A. King's office. The artist, Mr Ad. Howitt, has carried out his portion of the work in a most successful ruanner. He had a very difficult task, for we learn he had to improve a bad design, as the Committee of tho Association would not let him produce an original one. However, he has turned out an exceedingly pretty certificate. On it are pictures of tho band rotunda and lake in the Recro.ition Ground, and a view of the harbor. There are also fowls, pigeons, parrots, canarieß, &c, artistically introduced, making as a whole a very satisfactory job of the certificate, and one we are sure members of the Association must be pleased with
