The bankers discredit the proposal of Mr Carter, the Colonial Treasurer at Melbourne, to pay the Victorian Conversion Loan out of Savings' Bank deposits, holding that gold must be raised in London for the purpose. Tungariro sailed yesterday for Port Chalmers, Lytteiton, and Wellington. CHURCH ON FIRE IN NAPLES. Rome, April 25. The fire which broke out in church in Naples caused a panic among the congregation. In their eagerness to escape from the building five children aud eight women were crushed to death, while many others were injured.
