TARANAKI COUNTRY COUNCIL.

The Taranaki County Council met on WeJnesday. Present : Messrs Price (chairman), Gray, Lapper, Whiteiiouse, McDonald, Adhm, and Elliot.

Opunafce.—lilr A. H. Moore, of Opunako, wrote relative to the tollgate question. — It was decided to acknowledge the letter, and forwatd the decision of the Council to Mr Mooro, — A letter was also roccived from^ Mr Moore complaining of wa'er remaining in tho channelling in Opunake township. — The overseer stated ho was doing his best in the matter, and would endeavor to abate tho nuisance.

Complaint. — Mr M. Jone?, mail contractor, complained of the condition of the South Road generally. — A discussion took place, but no resolution was arrived at.

An o'd Dtviat on. — Mr W. Batten, of Junction Road, wrote notifying that an agreement had been mado between him and the lite Provincial Council foi a deviation of portion of Junction Road through his pioperty. The money had been paid for the deviation, but no con veyance had ever beon given to him or one signed by him in return. — The Chairman was requested to instruct die solicitor to complete matters.

Public Trudge's Power.— Mr Gray moved, and Mr Adlam secon led, " Tlmt the Council commun : cate with the Nitivo Minister and Minister of Lands asking them to instruct the Public Trustee to exercise the power conferred on him uo er Iti3 provisions of " Tho West Coast Settlement Reserves Act, 1892," as far as the wastu naiivo Kind* specified in the Act in thi j Cmnty were concerno 1." — Carried.

Damage to Ro'id. — The Chainnin of the Okato Road Board wrote pointing out the damage that had been done to the road where the ttonccrusher was working, and asking tho Council to luve the damage repaired. — It was deciJed to put tho road in the same repair as it waa wh -n the crusher wis first placed there.

Overseas Report.— Tho usual report from tho overseer was presented. — The overseer was instruct d to employ men for the purpose of breaking atones along the South Road as might bo required. — It waa agreed that timbor aad oipes as specified in the report should bo procur d. Also Unit tenders bo called for gravelling 39 chains of tho Mountain Road. Also that tender} be called for the erection of a tolhjffite and tollhouse in the Moa Riding Also tint 2i chains of fencing on tho .'South Ro id at Timaru be erected, as reoomuvjnde Iby the overseer It was also agreed that a duplicate cylinder and steam chest, etc , be procured for the Btonecrusher engine, as rec nunonded.
