Mails for Auckland, per- Gairlocb, close -morrow (Tuesday), at 6 a.m. A press telegram received from Launcoston to-day (Monday) states' that Dr; Robert Giffen left for New Zealand, not England. filr J. Hunter, of Mangorei, one of tl c Btaff of men employed to load tho s.s. lonic, met with a painful accident Von Saturday. Ho and his mates were on the tender steaincr Mannia, which was waiting outside the Waitara for the direct steamer to arrive. In order to fill in time Hunter and others began to fish, and while pursuing this peaceful occupation Hunter hud tho misfortune to run a hook into the back of his right hand. As soon as the lonic arrived, which was some hours afterwards, Hunter was taken on board, and tho ship's surgeon put him under chloroform and cut out the hook, which was firmly pmbedded in tho lurid.
