BANKRUPTCY OF MR T. KENNEDY MACDONALD.
HE RESIGNS HIS SEAT. "Wellington, November 30. — A petition was filed in the Supreme Court on Satur day on behal£*£ Thomas Bell, of- Holmes and Bell, Bleulieim, praying that T. K. Macdbnald, auctioneer, might be adjudged a bankrupt. In consequence of this Mr Macdonald has placed in tho Speaker's hands his resignation as one of the members for the city of Wellington in tho House of Representatives. The Auckland Herald correspondent says :—lt: — It is stated here that tho election will be a test of the strength-of parties It is an open secret that the position of the Labour party has somewhat shifted since the general election. They do not regard themselves as thick and thin supporters of the Government. Two or three names are mentioned as likely to have the Government support in the coming election, but J do not think it probable the Government will forego the opportunity of making a deliberate choice. One of the names is that of Mr H. D. Bell (Mayor elect) and another is Mr Henry Yogel, who is a member of the City Council. It was probably the antecedent knowledge of what was about to happen that induced the Government to call a full Cabinet for an early day next week, and to hasten absent Ministers back to Wellington.
