DEATH OF MR J. PIGOTT, OF URENUI.

Those who have visited Urenui, and stopped at tho hotel there, and those who knew Mr James Pigott, will read with regret that he lids "gone the way of all flesh.' Mr Pigott was formerly Mess Sergeant of the 2nd Battalion 15th Regiment, at Aldershot and Jersey, and also when the regiment wont on foreign service in India. At the latter place ho b came the caterer for tho mess. On completion of his twenty -one years of service, he retired from the army with a pension and a medal for " long service and good conduct" together with the good wishes foi his future welfare, and numerous certificates from the officers. In one of the certificates Colonel Wilkinson, writes: "I believe him to be most trustworthy; steady in hia habits, and always had tho interest of the officers and their mess at heart. The bringing up of his family is most praiseworthy, the credit of which the good mother must share, as well as the great help she haß been to him in his duties and responsibilities, very large sums of money being constantly in Ih'b hands. They deserve to succeed in life, and I sincerely hope they may." Mr Pigott came to Tavanaki about 1879, and took tho hotel at Urenui, whore as a caterer for the traveller and touri t, he soon became very popular, and no visitor was considered to have done Taranaki thoroughly without going to Uronui and dining at Host Pigott's Hotel. Tho deceased was very much esteemed by all who Know him, and he loaves a wife and grown up family to mo'irn their loss.
