In the evidence it camo out that the natives wore drunk at the time of the row ; and tkat every time tho natives came to Waitara they expect to get • drink. Constable Christie deserves tho thanks*of the community for trying to put a stop to the unseemly Bights of Maori squabbles that aro getting so common in our main street. A fine of 5s and costs was imposed on both natives.— i Several Urenui natives were summoned for tho non-payment of tho dog-tax, and ■were each fined 20s and costs. In the case of Joll v. Clough, in which a question of rent was involved, judgment was given for defendant with costa. Mr Roy appeared for the defendant. An interesting discussion on " Woman Suffrage" took place at the Institute on Monday evening last. It was held in the form of a mock Parliament. The Rev. J. P. Pinfold occupied the Speaker's chair. Mr Cox acted as Premier, and Dr Hutclunson was the leador of the Opposition. The motion proposed was " That every adult \ woman be placed upon the register at once, and have a right to sit in the House of Roprosontativos if legally elected." The amendment pleaded for delay in order that public opinion might be matured and the will of tho ladies made known, Messrs Mason, Lawrence, Moore, Dugdale, and Mrs W. Lawrence spoke to the motion. There was a full house, yet at the close of the dobato only 28 members voted, of which number 19 wero males. The result of the voting gave a majority of gentlemen in favour of the motion, but a majority of ladies in favour of the amendment.
