She takes two hundred thousand pounds' worth of specie for the United States. Sydney, October 6. Dalton, who battered his wife to death with a branding iron at the Surrey Hills in April last, has been sentenced to death. A remarkable series of the Stalactic Caves has been discovered near Marutau, 114 miles S.W. of Sydney. It will take weeks to explore them. Rabbits and hares aro increasing to an alarming extent in the country districts, though owing to the good season the damage is not so noticeable. Their ravages in the Cobar section have driven the stock off the runs. Thursday Island, October 6. The new steamer "Waitohi has arrived here, on her way to New Zealand.
