POLITICAL GOSSIP IN WELLINGTON.

END OF SESSION APPROACHING. Thursday, September 24.— The Appropriation Act passed its final stages in the House last evening. Previous to the Committee of Supply reporting to the House, the leader of the Opposition made some remarks on the way the Estimates had been rushed through Committee. Ho said he had never seen such an utter disregard of economy, and bore unmistakoable evidence of political pressure having been brought to bsar on the Ministry. The exMinister of Public Works said the total increase on the Estimates this year over last year was £107,500 on the Consolidated Fund, besides a large increase on Public Works Fund. MR R. C. HAMERTON'S PENSION. Tho bill granting to Mr R. C. Hamerton a pension of £250 was passed through all its stages last night. JUDGE EDWARDS' CASE. The Premier stated last night that the Government did not see its way to interfere with the conclusion already come to with regard to paying Judge Edwards' costß in the Piivy Council proceedings. GOVERNMENT WITHDRAWING PROPOSAL. The House met at eleven o'clock this | morning, when, in replying to Mr Rolleston, the Premier said that at this late period of the session the Government were not prepared to press the lust clause in the Public Works Appropriation Bill, provided that the moneys appropriated for railways may be expended under the control of the Minister for Public Works.
