POLITICAL GOSSIP IN WELLINGTON.
PETROLEUM IN TARANAKI. On the Question of the production of petroleum, Mr E. M. Smith the other ovening led the House to believe that an American and an English company are going to take up the industry if the Government will offer a bonus for the production of the crude or refined article. The Premier said the Government would take into their consideration the question of offering such a bonus. MR R. C. HAMERTON'S PENSION. The bill providing for the pension of Mr R. O. Hamerton (ex-Public Trustee) has been introduced into the House. WASTEFUL EXPENDITURE. A return submitted to Parliament shows that the cost of printing the report of the Native Land Lawa Commission, Mr Mackay's unfinished report, and the Maori translation of the report, was £278 la 6d. The total cost of the Commission was £1404 12s lid. TIRED OF THE SESSION. Ministerialists are beginning to kick over the traces at the way in which the Premier is driving his team along. Long hours this session have beon most trying, and it has been a case of " going home with tho milk" at least three times this week. Truly, we havo a " labor Government"
