"'.'- Jdne 26, — Tjiere was a large . attendance bpth-at;, the concert and dance ,on.-JFriday evening. , Mr Adlam .presided . at tbe'cqn,cert, and in a few well-chosen remarks explained the object of it — viz?, to obtain means to paint and decorate the inside of the school. The programme, a very long and varied one, bore evidonco of good and caroful training, ' and was fully appreciated. The scholars attending the school rendered several items in, a very proficient and pleasing manner, and received well merited rounds of applause. A stump speech, by an assumed darkio, fairly brought down, the house; in fact, every piece was highly amusing, and fully enjoyed. It would occupy too much space to give the full programme, therefore I Bhall but give tho names of those who performed the varioua items, a& follows: — Scholars — Misses Anderson (2), Bowers, Bell, Humphrey, Daly, Corbett (2), Sullivan. Roebuck,, Cash, and Shaw; Masters Anderson, Binnie, Corb.ett, , Dingle (3), Eustace (3), and Greenway. Amateur's — Mesda'men Dingle and Clark, Misses Dingle, Anderson, and ShawJ Messrs Clark, Corbett, Bartley, Furie, arid Shaw. ' The ' dance which followed was so largely attended that, unfortunately, the supply of refreshments' was not equal .to the, although ample .provision was made for tickets previously' sold. In such a case .very naturally ""some' may make ' unkind remarks,' which really would not be justified. With this exception, everyone, I bslieve, was well pleased, and had a very enjoyable time. There are many enquiries being made here respecting the petroleum oil boring.
