HEALTHY SLEEPING APARTMENTS.

The air of a sleeping apartment is always contaminated during the night ; but before the windows are thrown open, as they should be every morning, the children ought to be taken into another room. As soon as the child rises its bedclothes should be removed and exposed to the air for several hours, so that they might be purified from the effluvia which collects during the night. While the day nursery is being cleaned the children may be brought back to the night nursery, after the latter has been aired, as the dust caused by sweeping is very injurious, and they should on no account be allowed to stray into a room with a newly-washed floor. Carpets are not desirable in either day or night nurseries, as they harbour dust and form a happy hunting ground for disease germs. If any carpets are used they should be in squares or lengths, so that they may be taken up and skakeh every other day. Everything about h. nursery should be easy to clean. Thje walls should either be covered with tiles or with varnished paper, so that they may. be washed every week or two. Ordinary wall papers not only harbour dust, but also frequently contain poisonous colouring ingredients. The tiles or paper in the day nursery should be light coloured, ant! ornamented with bright pictures to amuse the small occupants of the room. In thle night nursery, however,. there should bp no pictures or attractive colours, as, when there, the child's business js to sleep, and there should be no disturbing influence. The room should be quiet and have dark blinds, so that it may be darkened during daylight, when the little ones take their noonday nap. During the morning sleep the windows of the day nursery should be opened and the room well aired.
