A telegram from Wellington states that Sir George Grey is confined to his room, suffering from lumbago brought on by a cold he caught on Monday. Mr Gibbons, at the Taranaki County Council meeting to-day (Wednesday), enquired how the rates wore coming in, and if _ the clerk wav carrying out the instructions of the Council to sue. In reply the clerk said that he was doing his utmost to get in the outstanding rates, and that he had sued for several amounts. •Captain Edwin telegraphed at 1.22 p.m. to-day :—": — " East to north and north-west gale, with rain and heavy sea ; glass further fall. The mail steamer Arawa, arrived at Wellington from London, at 1.15 this (Wednesday) afternoon. Passengers for New Plymouth : Mrs Glynes and family, Messrs Hawkins, and Miller.
