LAND IN TARANAKI.

Mr J. E. March, Superintendent of Villaga Settlements, in an address he delivered a short time since at Cbristcharch, referring to this district, said, "In the Provincial District of Taranaki some 32,000 acres are now open for selection under the ordinary land tenure, plans of which I have, and I shall be glad to afford further information. By the end *of next September an additional 38,000 acres will be open. Most of this land is subdivided, or is in course of subdivision. There is the Mimi Block of 10,000 acres, about thirty miles distant from New Plymouth. To reach it you go lay train to Waitara, thence on a good metalled road to Urenui bridge, thence on a formed road to the block I could not, however, recommend this block to bo placed under the amended regulations, as the area of first-class land (in one block) is not sufficient to enable a Bpecial settlement to be formed. It is, however, adapted for settlement in larger areas. Then there ia the Midhirst Block, distant four miles from Midhirst, inland towards the mountain. The area is about 3000 acres, and is suitable for subdivision into 200-acre blocks. The next block is the Mangamingi, nearly 9000 acres, distant seven, miles from Eltham. This land ia not yet subdivided ; it is rather mountainous country, and more suitable for subdivision into larger areas than 200 acres. Then there is the Mangaere Block of 9000 acres, district about eighteen miles from Stratford. A road is now being formed to this block. The land is flat at each end, but somewhat broken in tbe centre. Some of this land is adapted for small settlements. I also understand that 200,000 acres ot Native Land will shortly be purchased and opejn for settlement. A number of Canterbury people ar<? located -in Taranaki, and from all I could gather they are doing well."
