Sir Arthur Blyfche, Agent-General in London, is in ill-health, and has been granted three months' leave of absence. A valuable discovery of coal has been made in the vicinity of Leigh Creek, and near .the Great Northern Railway line.

Melboubne, May 21.

At the Victorian Coursing Club meeting, the Derby was won by Hard Needle, with Searle runner up. The Oaks was won by Windsor Wave, runner up being Hennie. Seats for Sarah Bemhardt's dramatic performances were put up to auction, when the 15s seats reached £2 apiece.

Sydney, May 22.

In the House of Assembly, last night, Mr G. H. Reid's amendment, traversing several clauses" in the Federal Constitution Bill, was negatived by 87 to 35, . and the Address-in-Reply was then adopted without further opposition.

At Eveleigh, last night, a collision occurred between a locomotive and goods train. The locomotive was running on an intersecting track, and struck the goods train at right angles. Both engines were badly smashed. Bertram, the driver of the goods train, was killed, his abdomen being ripped open, and the other occupants of the engines received a severe shaking.
