Captain Edwin telegraphed at 3.15 p.m. : — "North to west and south-west gale with 'considerable sea and glass rising, but will fall agai« after 16 hours and wind backing. • ' - ' Mr Thomas Humphries, formerly Chief Surveyor of the Taranaki Provincial District, is now in New Plymouth on a short visit, previous to his going to Napier, where be has been transferred. , The Hospital and Charitable Aid Board have decided to issue rations on a uniform scale, in consequence of some coses that have been brought to their notice. A special meeting of the Taranaki County Council was held this (Wednesday) morning, when there were present : Messrs Price (chairman), Lepper, T. Bayly, Olson, Adlam, and IJyngdon. The object of the meeting was to pass a special resolution defining, the fresh boundaries between the Waitara and Moa Ridings, on account of the transfer of the Rhnutautelca block from the former to the latter riding. The resolution was passed, and the Board adjourned. Mr Sparks wishes us to remind members of' the "Pinafore Opera Company that there will be a full rehearsal with orchestra at the St. Mary's Schoolroom: this (Wedaesday) evening, at seven dcfock. Mr Frank Walcot, the inventor of the gold medal emery file sharpening' stone, will arrive on Friday from Auckland, and give a public trial of this powerful invention for .sharpening all kinds of cutlery and agricultural implements on Saturday, 23rd jnsL, and evening, by illuminations at the <»merB of Devon and BroughamBtreei.
